Trump’s Sedition?

Opinion from Team Thomas

the 25th & impeachment …

Painfully, there is no other way to say this other than Donald J. Trump, the 45th president of the United States, appears to have attempted a coup d’etat with his stunt yesterday, January 6th, to have his supporters storm the United States Capitol, shutting down or delaying the orderly conduct of both the U.S. Senate and U.S. House of Representatives.

A coup d’etat, just to be clear, is the removal of an existing government from power, generally through violent means that are considered an illegal, unconstitutional seizure of power by a political faction, the military, or a dictator.  Trump’s army was a political faction.

Trump’s army came to Washington at his invitation and urged him to “stop the steal,” even though there has been no evidence of significant election fraud in any state in the nation. President Trump lost the Electoral College to Joe Biden 304-227 and was bested by more than seven million popular votes.

This lack of evident electoral fraud fact has been reaffirmed by the president’s own Department of Homeland Security, the United States Attorney General, numerous Republican governors, and Republican secretaries of state in allegedly rogue states like Arizona, Georgia, and Pennsylvania.

Multiple state and federal courts, including those with judges appointed by President Trump, have also reaffirmed this fact. Even the Supreme Court of the United States, with three Trump-nominated justices, refused to intervene for lack of evidence or standing.

Nevertheless, there the President stood, on the Ellipse in the shadow of the Washington Monument, outside the South Portico of the White House, a stone’s throw from the Lincoln and Jefferson Memorials, egging the already-frenzied crowd to, in the words of the president’s attorney, Rudy Giuliani, do “combat.”  The president’s sons, Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump, along with Eric’s wife, Lara, promised retribution if others did not follow the wishes of their father or father-in-law to overturn the state-certified elections.

These were not “patriots,” as daughter Ivanka Trump called them.  These were domestic terrorists who broke into the capitol, destroying property and leading to the death of at least four people in related incidents.

The President of the United States has been unhinged for many months now.  He was impeached for his “perfect call” in which he threatened a foreign nation, dependent upon the United States for military aid against our long-time adversary, Russia, if that country’s leader did not investigate general election opponent, former U.S. Vice President and now President-elect Joe Biden.

In response, President Trump has whistled while Americans by the millions have fought off the ravages of the pandemic, COVID-19, more than 350,000 of whom died.  While they died, President Trump golfed his afternoons away, complaining that the 2020 election was rigged when it was not.

No president of the United States has ever attempted a coup against their government.  No president of the United States has ever lied so many documented times for malice, evasion, or personal financial gain.  No president of the United States has ever more intentionally violated their sacred oath of office to “preserve, protect, and defend, the United States Constitution.

Sedition is defined in the United States Code as:

Whoever incites, sets on foot, assists, or engages in any rebellion or insurrection against the authority of the United States or the laws thereof, or gives aid or comfort to it, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than ten years, or both.

18 U.S.C. § 2383

It is Thomas’ opinion that President Donald J. Trump appears to have behaved seditiously and should be Impeached immediately by the United States House of Representatives and declared unfit by his Cabinet and Vice President under the 25th Amendment to the United States Constitution.

Donald Trump is a clear and present danger to the country he was elected to lead.  His tenure in office should be immediately terminated even though the Inauguration of the 46th president of the United States is mere days away.

The threat to American democracy is that great.
